Palpitations aren’t random. They’re not dangerous in most chronic cases. And they’re definitely not proof your body is broken.


They are communication. And when you finally understand what your body is saying? You take your power back.


Palpitations Aren’t a Mystery — They’re a Message


Before we dive in, let me be clear: If you’ve never experienced palpitations before, it’s smart to get checked out to rule out anything urgent. Most of the time, you’ll be told it’s stress or anxiety. You’ll probably be offered meds. I was.


But what you won’t be given is the actual reason it’s happening in the first place.


Doctors told me I had one of the healthiest hearts they’d seen — and that it was probably anxiety. But what they didn’t tell me was how my subconscious patterns were triggering the alarm.


I had no answers — just fear — until I discovered the real root: subconscious overwhelm.


The Biological Truth Behind Palpitations


Your body is hardwired to survive. When your subconscious perceives overwhelm — not just stress, but actual pressure your system deems unsafe — it activates your sympathetic nervous system.


Palpitations are a biological adaptation. They exist to:

For me, it was a perfect storm — a cross-country move, a realtor breathing down my neck, my husband gone for work — and then a business mentor yelling at me over the phone. I broke. That night, I had my first panic attack. Palpitations started and didn’t stop for two years.


That experience didn’t cause palpitations in everyone. But it did in me — because of my perception.


That’s the key. It’s not the situation. It’s how your subconscious interprets the situation.

Just because the external situation resolves doesn’t mean the symptom vanishes.


If palpitations stick around, it’s because your body is still getting the signal: "I'm under pressure. I’m not safe."


So the body keeps adapting — until the root pattern changes.

1. Perfectionism

  • You believe you’re only safe or worthy if everything is done right

  • You fear failure or disappointing others

  • You hold yourself to impossible standards


2. Overachiever Identity

  • Your worth is tied to what you produce

  • Resting feels lazy or unsafe

  • You push yourself past your limits every day


3. Lack of Boundaries

  • You say yes when your body is screaming no

  • You avoid setting limits with others to keep the peace

  • You carry everyone else’s emotional weight


4. Fear of Asking for Help

  • You equate asking for help with being weak

  • You don’t want to appear incapable

  • You feel like everything is on your shoulders — always


When these patterns run the show, your nervous system stays stuck in survival mode. And palpitations? That’s the alarm saying “I can’t keep this up.”


These Patterns Didn’t Start Yesterday


You weren’t born this way. These patterns started in childhood.


You learned to:

  • Overachieve to feel enough

  • Hold it together to be accepted

  • Prove yourself to feel safe


Later in life — especially in motherhood — those patterns intensify.


I believed everything was on me. I couldn’t rest. Couldn’t ask for help. Couldn’t stop proving. And when I ignored that, my body got louder — with palpitations, panic, and eventually full-blown health anxiety.

So… How Do You Actually Heal?


Here’s where we stop managing symptoms and start doing the real work.


1. Normalize the Symptom

Once you’ve ruled out a serious condition, it’s time to stop fearing palpitations. They are not random. They are not dangerous. They are a biological response to perceived overwhelm.


And fear only adds more adrenaline to the fire.


2. Identify the Patterns

Ask yourself:

  • Where am I chasing perfection?

  • Where am I proving my worth through action?

  • Where do I ignore my limits and say yes anyway?

  • Where am I afraid to ask for help?


These aren’t conscious choices — they’re subconscious defaults. And until you become aware of them, the overwhelm will stay stuck.


3. Rewire the Subconscious

This is the work. The real work.


You must teach your system — over time, through repetition and action — that it’s safe to rest, slow down, receive support, and live differently.


It’s not about thinking new thoughts. It’s about embodying a new way of being.
