6 Reasons Your Chronic Symptoms Are Not Going Away

Updated: Nov 25, 2023

By Jenny Peterson

Despite all the things you have tried, you still have symptoms that won’t go away.

I get it, I’ve been there. It feels like you are hitting your head up against a wall.

After helping people with chronic symptoms for the past 3 years, I’ve been able to see a pattern of some common reasons why people aren’t getting results.

I can guarantee that if your symptoms are not going away, either one, some, or all of these reasons are playing a role.

Once you address these 6 areas, you can be sure that your chronic symptoms will resolve.

In today’s blog, I’m going to discuss these 6 reasons, so you can be on your way to being symptom free.

Alright, l know you're here for the goodies, I like to keep things simple, so let's just get right to the list of reasons why your chronic symptoms aren’t going away.

#1 - You are stuck in old thinking patterns that keep you in a conflict state.

Going back to the foundational work of GNM/GHK, we have to keep in mind that our thoughts either send messages of safety or fear to our brain and body.

Messages of fear, whether they are real or not, will cause your sympathetic nervous system to be activated.

This means that you are in what we call a “conflict” state in GNM.

You cannot heal in a conflict state. Your body simply doesn’t feel safe based on the messages you are giving it.

Some of these kinds of messages include:

  • Fearing your symptoms

  • Ruminating about your symptoms

  • Caught up in the “what if” language

  • Fearing your future

  • Complaining

In my blog 'Your #1 Job When Healing Symptoms', I get more in depth of what these patterns are, so I encourage you to check that out if you haven’t.

While most of you probably know that you have a tendency to think in these negative patterns, I would say that most people are not aware of how much they do it during their day.

I suggest doing an awareness exercise to help hold the mirror up. This is where you set a timer to go off every 30 minutes or 1 hour. When the alarm goes off, write down what you were thinking. After doing this for 2 days, you will see literally in front of you where your head is during the day.

Your goal is to interrupt those old thinking patterns that are keeping you stuck in the conflict phase. I also have suggestions on how to interrupt those thinking patterns and send messages of safety in 'Your #1 Job When Healing Symptoms',

#2 - Focusing on symptoms with outside remedies or outside causes.

This is kind of a 2 in one, so I’ll break this down.

First being that you're focusing on “fixing” your symptoms with outside remedies. You're doing things like supplements, prescriptions, detoxing, changing your diet, oxygen therapy, zapping, etc. These are all very common, as they are the first place that people with symptoms have a tendency to go.

But as I have mentioned in previous blogs, GNM proves that symptoms are a result of an internal conflict. Nothing outside of you can “fix them”. These outside fixes may help you feel better temporarily but they will not last long term.

The second part of this is focusing on outside causes for your symptoms. Blaming certain foods, mold, or chemicals on your symptoms. If you have a reaction to these things, these are what we call tracks, they are not the cause of your symptoms.

Focusing on eliminating these will only cause you more stress. It will lead to a life that is very limited and often will cause a domino effect. If you have a reaction to one food, it will lead to reactions to more foods. Then to chemicals, mold, etc.

There is so much time, money, and energy wasted on these approaches. When we understand what symptoms mean and why we have them through GNM/GHK, it simplifies the whole process.

We can take away all these outside approaches and just focus inward.

#3 - No Targeted Work

The third reason why your symptoms are not going away is that you aren’t doing targeted work.

I’ve done the DIY brain retraining protocols. The ones where you do rounds, visualizations and meditations daily. The goal with these protocols is to get you to move into the parasympathetic nervous system. While these are helpful, they are not targeted specifically to your symptoms.

Your symptoms have a biological reason, as Dr. Hamer has laid out. They have a particular “subconscious program” connected to them. A general protocol is a one size fits all. Your subconscious programs are not the same as someone else’s, they are unique to you.

Without targeted work, you will never know the subconscious patterns that make up who you are. So this means that you will keep running into the same problems in your life whether they are health, finances, career, relationship, because they are all connected.

Learning these subconscious connections actually makes healing fun in my opinion. When you can see all the programs connected to your symptoms in front of you, you see the puzzle come together. It all makes sense and no longer is a mystery why you ended up where you are.

Targeted work is key to healing any chronic symptom.

#4 - NO CONSISTENCY

If you go to the gym whenever you get a burst of energy a couple times a month, you can’t expect results. If you increase going to the gym 1-2 times a week, you will see small shifts. But when you go consistently to the gym daily for a few months, you can expect to see changes.

Healing is exactly the same way. You have to be consistent with the work that you do if you want to get results. Doing a few things here and there for a few short weeks isn’t going to move the needle.

You have to remember that you have spent 30-50 years of your life consistently programming yourself to be this way. This was done subconsciously below your awareness.

Now to make changes you have to consciously make changes consistently. Conscious work is much harder to change because you are going against your programming.

Your subconscious is going to show some resistance because change is scary.

Without consistency, the subconscious wins. The old programming wins because its stronger.

Consistency is king when it comes to getting any type of results that you want in your life, it’s no different when it comes to your health.

When I’m talking about consistency, I’m not talking about consistently taking your supplements or doing some type of treatments. The work that needs to be consistent is stopping your old thinking patterns and catching your old reactions to triggers. Because these are the core of your symptoms that need to be your number one focus.

#5 - NOT DOING THE DEEP WORK

The fifth reason your symptoms are not going away is that you haven’t done the deep work. Most people are doing just surface work.

The surface work only takes you so far. Its the work that helps to calm your nervous system like meditation, visualization, smiling, singing, etc. This kind of work trains your brain to safely move into the parasympathetic nervous system but it doesn’t keep it there long term.

Long term results come from doing the deep work. This is where you find the subconscious patterns that are connected to your symptoms. They are going to be patterns that have been with you most of your life.

They come from both big trauma and little trauma. You didn’t have to be physically or sexually abused to do the deep work. It can be as simple as feeling not good enough your entire life because your brother got more attention than you.

The deep work forces you to face the subconscious patterns that are wreaking havoc in your life.

That might sound scary to you but know that it is the most empowering work that you will ever do.

It is the transformational work that will take your healing to the next level, create a 2.0 version of yourself and have long lasting healing even beyond you to your family.

#6 - NO GUIDANCE

I’m a type A person. I am a high achiever and for most of my life I thought that asking for help was a weakness. When it came to my healing, I thought I could do it all myself. In fact, I did a majority of it myself. I did the research, took the classes, shifted my thinking and committed to doing mind work everyday. That was all me and no one could have done those things for me. But there is one area that I wasn’t able to do myself. That was the deep work.

The deep work requires an outside eye. You can’t see your own poo. You’re sitting in your own poo and don’t even smell it at this point! Your subconscious patterns are so automatic that your conscious eye doesn’t see them.

You need someone, a guide, to point these out to you. Once you are shown these patterns, you will see things differently. But someone outside of you will see these patterns much easier than you. Then once they are identified, that’s where you can take responsibility to do something about them.

You can’t DIY deep level work. Even practitioners like myself stand by this with our own issues. When I have something that I can’t find the connection to, I go outside of me. I ask another practitioner for guidance.

Asking for help isn’t a weakness it's a sign of strength and confidence.

Be willing to step outside of your own ego to heal. Your ego, your subconscious, is going to do its best to protect you. That may mean in some cases avoiding the deep work.

Ok so thats my list of 6 reasons why your chronic symptoms aren’t going away. How many of these are you doing or not doing?

Let me go through them quickly again

  1. You are stuck in old thinking patterns that keep you in a conflict state.

  2. Focusing on symptoms with outside remedies or outside causes.

  3. No Targeted Work

  4. No Consistency

  5. Not Doing the Deep Work

  6. No Guidance

You can’t cherry pick your way to results.

You can’t only focus on stopping the negative thinking and avoid the deep work. You can’t just do the deep work and not focus on the negative thinking. You can’t do deep work without knowing the targeted work. All of these are necessary to get results.

How do I know? Because every student that is in the MBR program has each of these pieces and always gets results. I’m not willing to take away any of them to shorten the length of the work or to make it less uncomfortable.

The good news about this list of reasons why your not healing is this…… they are all in one place, your own mind. That means that the only thing holding you back from healing is you. Not the conscious part of you, but the subconscious part of you. When you make the subconscious patterns conscious, thats when changes happen, mentally, emotionally and physically.
