Jenny Peterson is a Chronic Illness Coach who helps those with chronic conditions uncover the unconscious patterns connected to their symptoms so they can heal for good. She is a GHK practitioner, speaker, teacher, founder of the MBR program and host of the Simplify Your Healing Podcast.
After resolving Lyme, digestive problems, panic attacks, skin issues and much more, she knew that she had to help others get back their life and health too. Her mission is to bring a solution to a world where so many are suffering emotionally and physically with chronic illness, by shining a light on the body’s ability to heal when unconscious stress is released.
It seems like I’ve always had health challenges in my life starting from a young age. I went through childhood constantly injuring myself, which led me to the prestigious recognition of being voted the most injured in high school! (Now that’s something to work for!) It was during this time in my life that I was introduced to holistic healing, using nutrition and herbs to improve my health. After learning how to help myself holistically, I became interested in learning how to help others with their health issues also. This lead me to Herbalism studies.
At the young age of 20, I opened my own health and wellness store, consulting with clients from all over the country. I loved what I did, but didn’t understand the importance of keeping myself balanced as a practitioner and after 10 years of business, I sold my store due to overwhelm and burn out.
After selling my store, I was lost. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. All I knew was holistic health. I did a lot of studying, reading and soul searching trying to find what my next step in life would be. I eventually settled on teaching business, because after all I learned what NOT to do with my previous business and I wanted to share it with other business owners, so they didn’t make the same mistakes as I did. But just as my business started to bloom, my husband was offered a new job in a different city. Taking this job meant that I had to be on my own with my son, pack, work and get the house ready to sell, while my husband left every week and only came home on weekends. This was a big change for me and caused a lot of stress.
It wasn’t long after this whole transition started that I started having health problems. I broke out in a rash on my face, had sharp pains in my back and was exhausted. Then one night after going to bed, I woke with this feeling that I never had before, of panic, my heart beating fast and my body shaking uncontrollably. I had no idea what was happening but felt like I was going to die. With just my son there with me, I was scared and didn’t know what to do. That night I had my first, but not my last, ambulance ride and ER visit.
These attacks, which I figured out later, were panic attacks. After awhile I could feel one coming on and just had to wait it out. In addition to the attacks, as months went on, other symptoms started showing like leg weakness, dizziness, feeling extremely cold, digestive problems and much more. I was extremely frustrated that I was feeling this way, but felt too weak to try and help myself, so I sought out help.
I sought help from the medical doctors, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, shaman, and anyone who would take me. I was desperate. After getting tests done, I had a little bit of an answer; They said I had Lyme Disease. Great I said, now what? Standard protocol is that you take antibiotics for Lyme. But I didn’t just get bit by a tick. I knew this much. I was not willing to take antibiotics to kill the one and only system that could heal me, my immune system. So that option was off the table for me.
I wanted to fight this naturally, so I settled on working with a naturopathic doctor. This was short lived because all he wanted to do was give me handfuls of pills. (Prescription and supplement) I was taking so many pills that one day I couldn’t swallow them anymore. I said this is ridiculous! My body is inflamed and stressed out, how in the world am I able to even absorb these? I then started to get mad. And when you get mad, you take action! I decided I was going to heal myself. I helped so many people before, why couldn’t I help myself?
So with the determination to find the answer, I stopped taking pills, I went back to my studies and then did even more studying on an areas that I never learned in my previous studies; the subconscious mind (AKA Autonomic Nervous System) I learned how to release conscious thoughts and subconscious emotions, beliefs, and memories that were stressing my nervous system using a combination of many neuroplasticity protocols. This was a huge area of healing that was missing and was the ticket to finally put the finishing touch on my healing.
After going through this experience of chronic illness for myself, I was able to see the struggles that others with chronic illness go through. Days of despair, and feeling like you’ll never be normal again were all very real to me. I too understand the struggle of searching for the answer, only to be in the viscous cycle of bouncing doctor to doctor, diet to diet, and pill to pill. This is what inspired me to once again help people. The feeling of not having an answer and not knowing if your ever going to be normal again is awful and I hate the fact that people feel this way. It was after having this experience that I was able to find the missing pieces to a lot of the neuroplasticity programs out there. Accountability, support and structure were the main things that I saw and it just so happened that I knew how to implement them from my previous business experience. So everything for me came full circle when creating the Mind Body Rewire Program, my past coaching experience, business experience and my experience with chronic illness.
I believe everything happens for a reason. Despite those years of feeling awful and not being able to be available as a mother and wife for my family, I wouldn’t take it back. I learned so much about myself and also a whole new perspective on how to bring the body into balance. This journey was a lesson for me on so many levels. Besides the lessons, I believe I was put in that position to help others once again.
I implement a mind-body approach to healing based off of the science of Germanic Healing Knowledge (aka GNM). The body is NOT separate from the Mind; In fact, the body FOLLOWS the mind’s messages via the nervous system. My primary focus is to identify and release unconscious stressors that are preventing the body from healing and teach how to trust rather than fear our own bodies. I don’t do the healing, your body does once the stress is gone! I firmly believe that everyone can heal themselves and I am only there to assist in providing the tools to make that happen.
